ABOUT YOGA@STUDIO9

Yoga @ Studio 9 is a welcoming, inclusive yoga studio where everyone is encouraged to move, breathe and practise in a way that feels right for them.

We believe yoga is for everybody. You don’t need to be flexible, experienced or know what you’re doing before you walk through the door. Whether it’s your very first class, you’re returning to yoga after some time away, or you’ve been practising for years, you’ll find a friendly and supportive space where you can feel comfortable being yourself.

Our timetable brings together a range of classes, styles and experienced teachers, giving you the opportunity to find the practice that works for you. From movement and breathwork to relaxation, meditation and mindfulness, there’s much more to yoga than what happens in a pose.

At the heart of Yoga @ Studio 9 is community. We want the studio to be somewhere you look forward to coming to, where you feel welcome from the moment you arrive and where connections are made both on and off the mat.

There’s no pressure to perform and no expectation that you should look or move a certain way.

Just come as you are.

OUR TEAM

At Yoga @ Studio 9, every teacher brings something different to the mat, with their own experience, training and approach to yoga.

Together, we offer a varied programme of classes in a friendly, supportive environment where everyone is welcome. Whether you’re completely new to yoga, returning to your practice or looking to explore something new, our team is here to help you find a class and practice that feels right for you.

Come as you are, find what works for you, and meet the people who make Studio 9 as welcoming as it is.

Chris Hunter

Chris is the owner of Yoga@Studio9 and came to yoga later in life. For years, he wanted to try it but lacked the confidence to walk into a class, imagining everyone would be super-flexible and experienced.

At 42, feeling stressed, unfit and ready for a change, he finally took the plunge. From his very first class, something clicked, and yoga quickly became an important part of his life.

In 2019, Chris travelled to Rishikesh, India, to complete his first 200-hour yoga teacher training. He has continued to learn and develop his practice ever since, completing a further 200-hour Hatha Raja Yoga qualification, 50-hour Yin Yoga training, 300-hour advanced Yoga and Mindfulness training, and most recently 100-hour Ashtanga Vinyasa Primary Series training.

Chris now also assists with 200-hour and 300-hour YogaJos teacher training programmes.

Having once been nervous about walking into his first class, Chris is passionate about making Yoga @ Studio 9 somewhere everyone feels welcome, regardless of experience, fitness or flexibility.

“Yoga isn’t about achieving the perfect pose. It’s about exploring movement, breath and stillness, and creating a space where everyone feels they belong.”

Caroline

Caroline attended her first yoga class at 19, not realising at the time how significant that experience would become or the impact yoga would have on the rest of her life.

Her practice has evolved over the years, including time spent immersing herself in yoga in India in 2007. For Caroline, yoga is about learning to accept things as they are in the moment, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.

With a background in psychotherapy, Caroline is particularly passionate about the therapeutic benefits of yoga and its ability to support both body and mind.

Her teaching brings together this therapeutic approach with elements of Ashtanga and Hatha Yoga.

Caroline completed her 200-hour teacher training at YogaJo’s in Milngavie in 2020, followed by 300-hour advanced teacher training in the therapeutic application of yoga in 2023. She has also completed advanced training in Ashtanga and Yin Yoga, alongside additional courses exploring the science and philosophy of yoga.

“Yoga is about accepting things as they are in the moment, mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually.”

Alison

Alison began her yoga journey in 2004 while searching for natural ways to help manage the challenges of living with chronic pain. It was during this time that she discovered Dru Yoga, a practice that went on to have a lasting impact on her life.

After completing her Dru Yoga Diploma, Alison began teaching in 2008 and has been sharing her practice ever since. She has also completed Diplomas in Holistic Therapies, Aromatherapy and Nutrition, further developing her whole-person approach to health and wellbeing.

In 2015, Alison discovered Qigong and went on to complete her Qigong Teacher Certification in 2020. Today, she brings together her experience of yoga, Qigong and holistic wellbeing to create gentle, supportive and accessible classes.

Alison is passionate about helping others improve their physical, mental and emotional wellbeing, with classes designed to be welcoming to all ages and levels of ability.

“A holistic approach to movement and wellbeing can help us feel better physically, mentally and emotionally.”

Angela

Angela began practising yoga in 2002 as a complement to her meditation practice, never imagining that one day she would be teaching it herself. Her teaching journey began in 2007, initially alongside her corporate career.

After completing both 200-hour and 500-hour Yoga Teacher Training, Angela continued to explore different styles and approaches to yoga. In 2012, following redundancy from her corporate role, she took the opportunity to make yoga a much bigger part of her life. Around the same time, she completed her Aerial Yoga Teacher Training, beginning another chapter in her practice and teaching.

Over the years, Angela has practised with a wide variety of teachers, both locally and internationally. This continued learning has shaped her belief that yoga is about far more than achieving the perfect posture.

Through her classes, Angela aims to create a safe, comfortable and encouraging environment where people can explore yoga, build confidence and develop a stronger relationship with themselves, whatever their experience or ability.

“Yoga is not just for the super fit and bendy. Yoga can be accessed by everyone.”
